SATURDAY & SUNDAY 10 TO 5:  GUEST PRESENTATIONS;   SPECIAL EXHIBITS; HOW-TO DEMOS;   MAKE & TAKE;    RAFFLE & AUCTION

Guest Presentations:
Tentative and subject to change.  After their talks, most guests will move to the Lizard Lounge for Q&A and to sign autographs.

Q & A with Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood:
The crew of the Discovery One reunite!

Join Drs. Dave Bowman and Frank Poole as they reminisce about their mission to Jupiter on the fortieth anniversary of their fateful trip (or seventh anniversary, dependant on how you look at it).   While Dullea and Lockwood’s work in Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” will be the primary focus of the presentation, the informal setting will allow for guests to question the actors about countless other aspects of their film careers.  Note: For their own safety, Dullea and Lockwood will be sealed in a soundproof pod for the full duration of this program!

SuperNova: Q & A with Linda Harrison
The vivacious Nova finally speaks at length about her time in Ape City and the Forbidden Zone.   Actress Linda Harrison shares her personal anecdotes from the sets of “Planet of the Apes” and “Beneath the Planet of the Apes,” remembers recently-departed costar Charlton Heston and tries to forget Tim Burton’s remake (as do we all).  The informal Q & A will allow fans to ask Linda about her other works, ranging from “Airport 1975” to “Cocoon.”

Bernie Wrightson Art Demo and Q & A
Horror artist extraordinaire Bernie Wrightson returns!  Join the co-creator of Swamp Thing as he demonstrates his artistic talents, sharing insight about his work as an illustrator, as well as recent work on his miniseries “City of Others” (put out by Dark Horse Publishing) and creature design for Frank Darabont’s “The Mist.”  Check out this fantastic demonstration and see why Bernie is a Wonderfest favorite!

John Chambers Tribute Panel with Bob Burns and Cortlandt Hull
Join two of the biggest “Monster Kids” of all time as they discuss the life and works of Planet of the Apes makeup artist John Chambers.  Both Burns (“The Bob Burns Museum of Movie Memorabilia”) and Hull (“The Witch’s Dungeon”) will display original “Planet of the Apes” pieces from their collections and take an in-depth look at the countless innovations John Chambers contributed to the makeup industry during his work in film and television (“Star Trek,” “The Outer Limits” and “Lost in Space”).

Wecome to The Witch’s Dungeon!
As creator of one the country’s longest running Halloween attractions and Classic Movie Museums. Cortlandt Hull has been a highly visible “Monster Kid” to generations of readers of Famous Monsters, and he’s joined Wonderfest this year to accept his Rondo Hall of Fame award and present a sneak preview of his latest wonder-full documentary to fans.  Modeler, artist, sculptor of life-sized classic monster recreations and skilled makeup man, Cortlandt (who’s also the nephew of Louisville’s own classic horror actor Henry “Werewolf of London” Hull) will be bringing along some full-scale “guests” of his own as well as his partner and co-producer Dennis Vincent to bring a new level of monster-movie obsession to the ‘Fest!

Gol-Dang You All to Heck!!!!!:  Frank Dietz remembers Charlton Heston
Disney animator, Heston-o-phile and Omega Man family member Frank Dietz looks back at the genre hits (and near misses) of the late, great Charlton Heston as he sketches a tribute to the legendary performer and fields questions /dodges bullets from the bloody baboons in the audience.  Free Soylent Green crackers and dip for all attendees!

Special Exhibits:

The Fleet’s In!
The original Battlestar Galactica rag-tag fugitive fleet finally makes earthfall at the ‘Fest in a BIG way as studio scale Galactica modelers recreate the classic BSG armada!

Return to the Planet of the Apes!
Super-fan Tony Hardy and his pals pull out all the stops on an astounding display of props, makeup appliances, costumes, blueprints, models and more from the original Planet of the Apes film series!  It’s a Madhouse!  A Maaadhouse!

2001:  A Studio-Scale Odyssey!
Our friends at Atomic City Models make the Ultimate Trip to Louisville to unveil an astounding 12-foot Discovery One!  Also on display:  A Discovery One space helmet and backpack!  A head casting of FX master Stuart Freeborn’s Moonwatcher, the simian star of 2001, and much, much more!

The Classic Monster Toy Museum!
The Yahoo Universal Monster Army launches another attack on our collective childhoods with new museum-quality displays of the horrific playthings from our past that we remember fondly and still crave!

How-To WorkshopsModeling How-to Demos:

WonderFest continues our commitment to the art of model making with an expanded demo lineup!

Details are still developing, but we'll post the info here as soon as it's ready.

Talks will last from 30 minutes to an hour, (or even two) and are planned to focus on major modeling topics and skills demonstrations.  Some will allow the viewers to try the techniques shown.

Exact times and days are tentative: the final schedule will be listed in the WonderFest Pocket Program, available at the show.

Where kids can build a
model kit and then keep it!

All weekend long, during normal show hours, you’ll find modelers haunting this family-friendly workshop.  First-time modelers of any age can visit the Make-It & Take-It Workshop and build one of the beginner-level kits...and then keep the model!

Hobby Link Japan logoA bunch of great model kits have generously been provided by Hobby Link Japan with supplies and help from the WonderFest Make & Take staff and volunteers.  The kits are free while supplies last.

WonderFest is dedicated to encouraging a new generation of modelers.

Every year at WonderFest there’s a Raffle and Silent Auction to benefit worthwhile charities. We’re proud that in the past nine years, this incredible effort by volunteers has raised more than $20,000–while hobbyists have taken home startling goodies–thanks to the generosity of many donors and friends of WonderFest.

For the RAFFLE, model and toy-related companies donate hundreds of pieces of merchandise to be raffled off. There are kits and supplies with cash values in the hundreds of dollars you won’t believe.

In addition to the raffle, a SILENT AUCTION of extra-special donated items will be held that can include movie-related artifacts, original art work, masks, autographed books and more.

About our Charities:

For the RAFFLE:
The WHAS Crusade for Children, P.O. Box 1100, Louisville, KY 40201

In 52 years the WHAS Crusade for Children has collected more than $100 million and has helped over one million physically or mentally handicapped children in Kentucky and Indiana. Money collected through the Crusade helps fund new medical equipment, teachers, therapists, laboratories, computers, speech training and much, much more.
The WHAS Crusade for Children is a 501-c (3) non-profit organization.

For the SILENT AUCTION:
Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 611 Granite Springs Rd., Yorktown Heights, NY 10598

Guiding Eyes for the Blind, founded in 1954, is considered one of the foremost guide dog training schools in the country. Some 160 student/guide dog teams each year benefit from Guiding Eyes’ services. It now costs $25,000 to breed, raise and train each of the remarkable dogs that is matched with a blind partner. Yet Guiding Eyes for the Blind charges no tuition. The dogs, training, students’ room and board for 26 days, and lifetime follow-up support are all provided free.  Guiding Eyes for the Blind is a 501-c (3) non-profit organization, which receives no government assistance.
