SANDRA GIMPEL

Stuntwoman, actress, director: Star Trek, Lost in Space, Battlestar Galactica

Sandra “Sandy” Gimpel is a stunt coordinator and the first stuntwoman ever to get her DGA (Directors Guild of America) card and become a second unit director, breaking the glass ceiling for stunt women. Sandy holds a 4th degree black belt in Tae Quon Do from world famous Billy Blanks.

Sci-fans have seen her in the STAR TREK pilot “The Cage” (later made into the “Menagerie) in which she played a Talosian under heavy makeup. The producers liked her so much she was hired to be the Salt Vampire M-113 in the first broadcast episode, “The Man Trap,” shown on NBC September 8, 1966.

She also appeared in other sci-fi shows of the era. Sandy doubled Bill Mumy’s “Will Robinson” and played monsters on producer Irwin Allen’s LOST IN SPACE. She worked on the original BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and on BIONIC WOMAN.

Sandy is one of the founding members of The Stuntwomen’s Association and a past vice president. She’s president of Felion Productions and works on many feature and television productions. She was honored to receive the “Women in Film” Crystal Award for outstanding achievement in stunt coordinating. She received the lifetime achievement award from Diamonds in the Raw and the SAG award for outstanding stunt ensemble for SPIDER-MAN 2.

Her other credits include Sacha Baron Cohen’s award for the BBC, GOONIES, THE TRUMAN SHOW, AIRPLANE! (girl scout fight), OFF THEIR ROCKERS with Betty White, RAISING HOPE with Cloris Leachman, and doubling Debbie Reynolds for most of her life; just to name a few.

Getting into show business as a dancer with Fred Astaire and going on to dance in 15 movies with Elvis Presley was beyond her dreams, starting on CLAMBAKE and continuing to CHANGE OF HABIT.

Please check IMDB for a near complete list of her accomplishments coordinating features and tv shows.

Sandy Gimpel’s WonderFest appearance is sponsored by CultTVman’s Hobbyshop, Squadron, and Paragrafix.
